OFF THE RECORD

I cuss a lot. In other news, I have adorable pets.

Poor grammar sells

I’m not a Britney Spears fan.

That being said, I can’t help but like some a lot of her music. Specifically, a song called “Circus” on her most recent album… “Circus.”

You can see the video here.

Or, for those of you who really don’t want to do that and just want to know why the eff I’m talking about Britney at 1 a.m., here’s the point:

The song makes me wanna dance. I like that. I like to dance.

But every time it gets to certain parts of the song, I cringe.

Exhibit A:

There’s only two types of people in the world

The ones that entertain and the ones that observe

Exhibit B:

There’s only two types of guys out there

Ones that can hang with me and ones that are scared

Hey, I never said they were particularly deep or meaningful lyrics.

But do you see the problem here? I’ll give you a second to go back and read those again. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

People THAT entertain or observe, guys THAT hang with Brit or are scared.

IT SHOULD BE “WHO,” people, not “THAT.”

So I hear the song, get all bouncy cuz it’s catchy, then make a face when it gets to those sections of the song because of BAD EFFING GRAMMAR.

Ugh.

  1. You know, before I took journalism classes, I would have totally passed that by. Damn AP Style.

Whenever I see stuff like that today, it drives me mad!

  2. There is also that Fergie song where she says “Like a child misses their blanket.” It drives me CRAZY. I correct it when I sing along!

  4. Actually, what I couldn’t get past in the lyrics was “There’s only two kinds of guys.”

Should be “There are.” I didn’t even get to that/who problems.
