OFF THE RECORD

I cuss a lot. In other news, I have adorable pets.

Hello, goodbye.

I’ve been hinting for awhile now that Lauren and I have been working on some awesomeness. Maybe you didn’t catch on?

Regardless.

It’s happened.

(I’m just full of passive voice today. UGH.)

kacijohanna.com/blog

Yeah, so we’ve been having issues with the whole kacijohanna.com thing being RUDE (and not redirecting) but I’m damn tired of messing with it. I mean, I’m going to keep messing with it to get it working correctly, but I wanted to get everyone over THERE and away from HERE.

So go. THERE. Not here.

Update your readers, bookmarks, etc. Please?

Because I won’t be posting here anymore. kthx.

And maybe one day kacijohanna.com will work. But no promises.

Excuse the sideways photos – I’m at the library and don’t have photo editing software and unless I’m wrong you can’t do that in wordpress? Whatever. You get the idea.

a little nervous

totally happy!

totally happy!

The haircut was a success. I told my stylist (I feel weird saying that) I wanted something simple, mostly all one length (I’m boring) and still ponytail-able. Check, check and check. AND CUTE (in my humble opinion). So yeah. There’s my hair cut. So big bro, that answers your question (definitely NOT Kate Gosselin-style) and Lauren, these pics are for you.

Anyway, like I said before, I’m at the library. Look, I haven’t used  many libraries. Back home, before the one there got all spiffy, they still used those cards in the back of the book and stamped them with the due date. Then I went to WSU and, well, I didn’t use the library there a whole hell of a lot.

But this one? This one I like. (I mean, come on, of course I do I’M ON THE INTERNET RIGHT NOW what’s not to like?) It’s part of the North Central Regional Library and it is awesome. I checked out “Explaining Hitler” by Ron Rosenbaum. Don’t judge. Hitler’s always been interesting to me.

(nearly) silent tweets

Some people love it. Some people hate it. Some people just.don’t.get it.

But I’m on it.

@kacijohanna. Hit me up.

Yeah, I’m on Twitter. And, chances are, if you’re on it and have ever commented here before, I follow you.

In fact, there are a lot of people I follow on Twitter.

But you know what SUCKS?

Look. My tweets are protected. As in PRIVATE. Well, not REALLY private, but it’s not all public-y like this here blog. You gotta have permission to see MY tweets.

But it’s not like I think my tweets are something to, yanno, brag about.

I just rant. A lot. About things the general public doesn’t need to be able to find when they come across me in the Googles. About things I’m not even going to mention here.

But I rant. Thus my tweets are protected.

And I’m kind of sad about it because there are some lovely, lovely people out there I follow and DAMN IT I can’t really interact with them on Twitter because my @replies fall on deaf (blind?) ears (eyes!) and it’s all very, very sad.

So. If you’re reading this and you’re on Twitter I BEG YOU TO FOLLOW ME because I’m not really big on this one-way friendship thing.

I’m getting my hair cut Friday.

No… no. This isn’t one of those “OH-EM-GEE I’m, like, so totally undecided! How should I cut it this time?” posts.

Listen (or read, whatever). I’m SO ASHAMED that it’s been ohhh like a year and a half since I last got it cut, but it is what it is. Yeah. A year and a half-ish. As in I haven’t had my hair cut since BEFORE I GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE AND MOVED TO THE BASIN IN APRIL 2008. Emphasis on the BEFORE there. I don’t even remember when the last damn time was.

Anyway.

I’m getting my hair cut Friday.

And I’m kinda freaking out about it. I mean, it’s pretty long. Not, like, Locks of Love* long (but I just CAN’T get it that long without going crazy and I can’t cut my hair crazy short either), but pretty long. And even though I’ve said Idon’tknowhowmanytimes recently how badly I need it cut, well, IT’S LONG and I’m a GIRL and I get ATTACHED to my hair.

So yeah. I’m kinda freaking out. I’m scared.

I’m sure I’ll be glad to see it go (I mean, who doesn’t want to see inches and inches of split ends on the floor instead of attached to their head?) but I’ll also be SAD to see it go. Yanno?

Eh.

* Okay, seriously? Go visit the Locks of Love website. Do it, and do it now, then come back here. I’ll wait.

….

….

SERIOUSLY. Go.

….

….

HOW UNFORTUNATE IS IT THAT THEY ABBREVIATED IT “LOL KIDS?” Ugh.

It’s not NEARLY as funny as our feline or canine friends.

Too many cowboys, not enough rope*

Linzie Walker won the barrel racing for the fourth year in a row in Pendleton this year.

Linzie Walker won the barrel racing for the fourth year in a row in Pendleton this year.

I. Am. Exhausted.

The 2009 Pendleton Round-Up was a huge success, in my humble opinion. There was family, friends and mucho beer. It’s a rodeo, what do you expect?

I got to see some great barrel racing, bronc (saddle and bare back) riding and of course bull riding. Those are my favorite events.

In case you’re wondering, I am NOT a fan of the steer wrestling and calf roping events. Not. Cool. I cheer every time a cowboy screws up and the lil’ guys get away. So sue me.

Ride 'em, cowboy!

Ride 'em, cowboy!

But I do love me a good (or bad) cowboy. Let ‘er buck!

All I can say is @lucirachael better make it next year.

* I didn’t say it. A T-shirt did. I promise.

More than meets the eye

I, too, write. I write for work (sometimes), but I deal with many pieces of writing for work … which makes it difficult to go home at night and write for fun. But I used to write for fun, and I miss that.

I laugh at things I probably shouldn’t laugh at. I curse more than what most people are comfortable with.

I love. I mean I really, really love. I love my dogs. I love shoes. I love my boyfriend. I really love my family and REALLY love my nieces. (Okay, I REALLY love my boyfriend, too.) When I love, I REALLY love.

I hoard, but I try not to. I always seem to think that someday, I’m going to neeeeed that. And then four years later I realize I haven’t taken it out of the box, not even once.

I dream. I dream about what it would be like to be a stay-at-home mom, a housewife. I dream about operating a kennel out of our home with Pete. I dream about training dogs all day while Pete is at work. And then I dream about showing off the dogs’ talents when he gets home.

I sing along to every. song. I hear. I can’t help it. I LOVE music.

I read – not as much as I used to, and not as much as I’d like, and a lot of my novel reading has been replaced with blog reading, and I’m okay with that. I admire so, so, so many bloggers for so, so many reasons.

I enjoy the History Channel but hated every history class I ever took. I enjoy a good rodeo and/or demo derby, if for no other reason than they remind me of home.

I protect my tweets because I’m too impulsive to not tweet about work, and I can’t risk those tweets being found by the public at large. But I do like my job. Most days. I subscribe to more blogs than I can keep up with and still feel like I’m missing out on some great ones.

I miss dancing and going out with my girlfriends. I miss college basketball games and Thirsty Thursdays.

I wear heels and almost never wear flats that aren’t flip flops. I like to argue, but not REALLY argue.

I tickle my nieces when I see them and miss them when I don’t see them.

I watch re-runs on TV even when I’ve seen them a thousand times before.

I listen to Matchbox 20 in my car.

I’m more than this. So much more.

This post was inspired by the one and only Doniree. Read her post here.

Name game

So lately I’ve been thinking.

I know. It’s a dangerous thing. Don’t worry, I don’t do it often. Just ask Pete.

But lately I’ve been thinking about this blog a lot. I’m in the (slow, painful) process of making some big changes (big thanks to Lauren – I’d link here but GOTTA LOVE POSTING VIA EMAIL FROM MY BLACKBERRY CUZ I DONT HAVE INTERNET so I can’t) in my neck of the interwebs. But that’s not what I’m talking about here.

Fun lil tirade though right? Right.

I’m talking about a change more immediate… “Off the Record” just doesn’t sound like it fits anymore. I don’t write near enough about journalism and I try to avoid writing specifically about work at all costs… So I’m thinking about changing the name of the blog.

Change it to what, you ask? So sweet of you to inquire.

To “Kaci Johanna,” of course.

Boring? Or more accurate? Or both? Or something else entirely? Thoughts?

EDITED TO ADD: Check out Lauren (see above) here.
